dc for labor day

went to dc for labor day to see kim. had a blast. really short trip, and there is so much to do there that you need a good week or more to pack it all in, however our mission was to see kim and enjoy a trip away.
1st place we went to was arlington cemetary. all i could say was WOW!!! over 190,000 soldiers and their families have been buried there, in thanks for their service to our country. to see the rolling hills of the white markers is a sight to behold. the only reason that you are no longer seeing the markers is due to the trees being in the way. we saw where jfk and robert kennedy are buried. that is kinda a spooky feeling just because of the whole setting. but by far, the tomb of the unknown soldier is a sight, spectacle, memory that i will not soon forget. we happened to go see it during one of the changes of the gaurd. truly inspiring what they go through for the memory of those who gave their lives. this honor gaurd has been gaurding this tomb 24/7 since 1937. their story and history is amazing.
we also saw lincoln's memorial, ford's theatre, and the house that he died in. this was one of the most memoriable of what we did. i am a big fan and supporter of who lincoln was and what he stood for. an amazing set of memorials.

disney pics here

not much verbal on this. this is all about the images. unfortunately, i did not end up with many of them. so this is all there will be shown.

Karch is almost king

okay, so he did not win. but he did something else to still be impressed by. they played the finals after being knocked out in the quarters of the winners bracket. that's right, they had to come back and play 2 more games and win just to get back into the saturday semifinals. and another set of props for todd rogers and sean scott. they too were knocked into the losers in the winner's finals. so here you have 2 unbeatens in feurbringer/jennings, and gibb and metzger, and 2 teams that just finished off the loser's bracket in kiraly/ lambert, and rogers/scott. kiraly and lambert come back to win their match against gibb and metzger in 3 games, 28-26 17-21 17-15 in 1hr 23 min. then rogers and scott win their match against feurbringer and jennings in another marathon 19-21 21-15 16-14 in 1hr 14min. now that's volleyball. in the finals, karily and lambo lose in 1hr 5 min at 21-16 21-16. a great victory and well deserved for rogers/scott. but this just goes to show you once again, that age can teach beauty from time to time. check out the beach volleyball database or the avp for more info.

Chicago AVP Labor Day 2005

i was just looking at the beach vball info website and looking at the quali brackets for chi-town. there are quite a few texans in the tourney this year, both men's and women's. personally, my favorite is still the greatest who has ever played the game. karch karaly. the all time winningest player, tops in money, and still wears the same gay pink hat after all these years. at the grand old age of 42, he is still not only competing, but winning tourneys as well. he is the inspiration that old age does not weaken everyone, you just move your strengths to other areas. by far one of the former great leapers(i once read an article on his workout that included 40inch box jumps with a 40lb dumbell in each hand,) but always one of the best minds on the beach. 6 time MVP and best defensive player in 2002. just goes to show that some things do get better with age. good luck once again to all the texans in the qualifier.
